The importance of ventilation and indoor air quality
How our lifestyles impact our air quality
Did you know we spend over 90% of our time indoors? With most leisure activities (gyms/bars) and work life (offices/homes) based indoors, we find ourselves in a situation where fresh air needs to be ventilated into these spaces.
The pandemic drew attention to the importance of ventilation for reducing the spread of Covid, but our indoor lifestyles need well-ventilated rooms too. A build-up of dust and pollutants can cause respiratory illnesses, furthermore rooms without fresh air can lead to condensation and mould.
The benefits of a Ventilation system
A poorly ventilated space can be detrimental to our health. A ventilation system can help remove a build-up of pollutants, bacteria and bad odours. It can also manage the temperature of a room to make it more comfortable and reduce the chance of mould growing.
Correct ventilation can help reduce the spread of airborne viruses by bringing fresh air into a room and removing older stale air that contains virus particles. The Health and Safety Executive provides guidance on how best to ventilate a room.
The different types of ventilation systems
There are three key types of ventilation systems to improve indoor air quality.
- Natural ventilation – opening a window or door.
- Mechanical ventilation – Fans can be installed directly into windows, walls ducts to supply air into a room.
- Hybrid (mixed-mode) ventilation – Uses both natural and mechanical to control the air flow rate into a home. When the natural flow rate falls below the desired level, the mechanical unit will override and control the ventilation system.
How we can help
We are a firm believer that we are selling a fan in application, not just a fan. We work with our customers to understand their exact needs and how to optimise our product offering for them. At Torin-Sifan, we have proven experience with achieving customer’s ventilation requirements; An example of this would be when we created a fan for an Air Purifier using our highly efficient EC3 range.
We design and manufacture highly efficient AC and EC motors, motorised impellers and fans for the residential and commercial HVAC manufacturing markets worldwide. With a wide range of whisper-quiet fans suitable for ventilation applications, we can help you with your requirements today > Contact us
